Corporate Social Responsibility

In today's global business climate, CSR (corporate social responsibility) can be a reconciling mechanism between globalization and anti-globalization forces, government regulations and self-regulation, and a tool in balancing the needs of the company with those of its multiple stakeholders. The workforce of the future will demand greater corporate responsibility as part of the employment contract.

Disease can be treated with therapies. Hunger can be solved with improved agricultural technology and transportation. Population growth can be slowed with education and family planning. Deforestation can be prevented though reforestation and continuing land stewardship. Urban blight can be reversed through community investment, education and affordable housing. For most social and environmental problems afflicting our global society, there are potential solutions -- but such solutions require a major commitment to change. We strongly believe in such commitment to change.

Programmes on CSR

Promotion of Equal opportunities for women in herbal sector

Women play a critical role in agriculture of Nepal. Despite their contribution, women farmers are frequently underestimated. Women constitute more than 60% of the agricultural labor force but have little access to land, production technology and training. There is a wide gap between men and women when it comes to participation and decision making.

Biosysnepal is committed to provide equal opportunity for women in herbal sector. This means that women are treated with fairness and respect in that they are not subject to discrimination or harassment in the working place. Biosysnepal recognizes that empowerment of women is key to raising production and enhancing the living conditions of the community.

Women are involved in collection, cultivation and processing of aromatic plants. Regular motivation as well as training is provided to women to maximize their participation in the economic activities.

Promotion of HIV/AID Awareness

Nepal runs a considerable risk of an increased epidemic due to an active sex trade, high rates of girl trafficking to India for sex work, apparently increasing numbers of injecting drug users (IDUs) and heavy labor migration.

As in many other countries, women's low social and economic status in Nepal, combined with greater biological susceptibility to HIV, put them at increased risk of infection. Poor economic conditions, which make it difficult for women to access health and social services, compound this vulnerability.

Biosysnepal, in coordination with the local user groups, is creating awareness among the rural people about AIDS.

School Health and Sanitation Awareness Programme

Most of the schools in Nepal lack sanitation facilities. When we say sanitation facilities it includes software and hardware both. Software means proper sanitation knowledge given to children and hardware means facilities like toilet, hand washing tools, furniture, safe drinking water supply system etc. Due to lack of these facilities annually 10,000 children die in Nepal.

When there is no toilet in the school students are forced to adopt for open defecation and open urination. This makes school and adjoining area polluted and provides the perfect setting for diseases to flourish. It is found that, one of the reasons for girl student drop out is not having proper or no toilets in the school.

This being one of the biggest problems of Nepal, Biosysnepal has given a due priority to the health and sanitation of the people of its working area. Biosysnepal is executing this programme through school children. As schools are the best entry points of hygiene and sanitation activities. Changing behavior of the students will automatically help to change the community at large.

It is found that sanitation and health problem afflict those people living in low income group. Poor people they lack sanitation facilities and proper knowledge. Due to this problem people cannot engage themselves in economic activities. To overcome this problem, Biosysnepal is trying to improve health and sanitation status of the community people by providing regular training on Environment, Health and Sanitation.

In addition to this Biosysnepal is also organizing regular health checkup programme for the community people targeting especially women.

After this programme, it has been noticed that time saved in looking after their children and themselves have been utilized in farming and other economic activities.

As community people are now fully aware of cleanliness and sanitation, they make sure that distillation and production is clean and tidy.
